The IUCN is formulating a Green List of well-managed nature reserves. Criteria include benefit to the local population, sustainable tourism and maintaining biodiversity. Lake Bogoria National Reserve is a promising candidate for the list. Its chief warden William Kimosop is fulfilling those criteria. But the decreasing flamingo numbers are due to natural causes, so all he can do is wait - another aspect of good management.
