Sri Lanka Marks 60 Years of Independence

On its 60th Independence Day, Sri Lanka has been hit by fresh violence that has claimed at least 14 lives. The government has blamed the Tamil Tigers for the attacks. In an address to the nation, President Mahinda Rajapakse praised the army for its campaign against the Tamil Tiger rebels in the embattled north and east.
