Spain legalizes euthanasia and assisted suicide

Spain has joined a handful of countries where terminally or seriously ill people can end their lives legally, provided they fulfill certain criteria and get doctors' approval. The reform came after years of campaigning by supporters. DW's Nicole Ris reports from Madrid.

Italy: Man undergoes first legally approved assisted suicide 16.06.2022

A 44-year-old man who was paralyzed from the neck down was the first to be authorized for medically assisted suicide. Having no independence left him physically and mentally like a "boat drifting on the ocean," he said.

Germany: TV viewers vote in favor of euthanasia during movie 'God' 24.11.2020

The film "God," aired by German broadcaster ARD, poses questions on assisted suicide for a 78-year-old man who has lost the will to live. Over 70% of viewers said doctors should give him access to a lethal drug.
