Franzjosef Schafhausen is an expert on energy policy, carbon trade and climate change strategies. He has served as the Deputy Director-General of the Department "Energiewende" (Energy Transition) in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) since 2012. In 2000, the German government appointed Schafhausen to head up the working group "Emissions Trading to combat the global Greenhouse Effect." Schafhausen also advised the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNCCC) from 2005 - 2009. He also is currently a lecturer at Berlin's Free University.
