Beethoven's Ninth Symphony travels around the world through a documentary: It's among the series of special projects Deutsche Welle is offering for the year dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth.
Over 2,000 artists dealt with the idea of "fate," which was this year's motto at the Beethovenfest in Bonn. Despite a varied and exciting program, sales for the festival could have been better.
In contrast to the the motto "Schicksal" (fate) with its serious implications, an orchestra from France played mostly quiet tones. The downbeat to the festival is followed by three notably upbeat festival weeks.
