The violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja is performing in Bonn at the annual Beethovenfest with the Camerata Bern. She prefers taking risks with her music rather than perfection and Sarah Willis finds out why.
Over 2,000 artists dealt with the idea of "fate," which was this year's motto at the Beethovenfest in Bonn. Despite a varied and exciting program, sales for the festival could have been better.
In contrast to the the motto "Schicksal" (fate) with its serious implications, an orchestra from France played mostly quiet tones. The downbeat to the festival is followed by three notably upbeat festival weeks.
