A bomb attack on a trolley bus on Monday morning in Volgograd comes less than a day after a fatal bombing at the city's railway station. Investigators believe Islamist fighters from the North Caucasus were behind both suicide attacks.
There was plenty of drama on Day 14 of the Pyeongchang Winter Games, where a 15-year-old figure skater stole the headlines and Germany pulled off a massive upset in ice hockey.
Norway's domination at the Pyeongchang Games has continued, with more medals on Day 12. The Germans, meanwhile, upset world champions Sweden to advance to the semifinals of the men's ice hockey tournament.
The Winter Olympics are underway in South Korea. Almost 3,000 athletes from 92 countries, including 169 "Olympic Athletes from Russia," and both Koreas appearing under one flag, took part in the opening ceremony.
Day 8 saw gold for Poland, Britain, Slovakia, South Korea, Norway, Switzerland and Canada. Czech snowboarder Ester Ledecka caused a shock in the Super-G and Japan's Yuszuru Hanyu took figure skating honors.
