Up until now developing countries have had little interest in G8 politics, as it was a quite an exclusive club. I hope that the participation of developing countries, including Brazil, in the upcoming G8 summit will make it clear to these powerful countries that they are responsible for war, hunger and the inequalities in the world. The G8 members also need to understand that they are responsible for global warming.

I hope that the developing countries are able to make it clear to the rich G8 members how important it is for them to consider the social and economic circumstances of other regions.

The world needs multilateral systems to ensure that the perspectives of developing lands are taken as seriously as those of powerful nations. The G8 does not do this fairly; it functions as an exclusive club of rich nations.
