Bayer has now lost a third important lawsuit aimed at its subsidiary Monsanto for damages involving the use of weedkiller Roundup. The jury found in favor of a couple who contracted cancer, and awarded them two billion dollars in damages.
Monsanto's controversial weed killer Roundup is used widely by many agricultural firms across Germany. They say consumers are barely aware of what it would mean to stop using the herbicide. Hardy Graupner reports.
Bayer-owned Monsanto has been hit with its third jury verdict in California tying its Roundup weed killer to cancer. Bayer faces more than 13,400 Roundup-related lawsuits in the United States.
Another heavy blow has been dealt to German company Bayer. The firm was ordered by a US court to pay compensation in yet another glyphosate-related case. Bayer needs to act swiftly, says DW's Henrik Böhme.
Bayer's subsidiary Monsanto is expanding production of genetically modified seeds in Chile, prompting an outcry from environmental groups. The Latin American country is a leading exporter of seeds worldwide.
