Risi, Marcelo

Principle Media Officer, United Nations World Tourism Organization, Madrid, Spain

Marcelo Risi was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1967. He is the Principal Media Officer at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), reporting to the UNWTO Secretary-General and responsible for global media relations. Risi graduated in economics from the University of Hamburg, Germany, and began his career in Germany and Spain as a researcher and analyst specializing in economic development. Prior to joining the UN, he worked for more than 10 years in international broadcasting as an economics editor for the Latin American service at Deutsche Welle in Cologne, Germany, as a producer at the BBC World Service in London and as a bilingual correspondent for the BBC World Service in Madrid. Risi is a lecturer in post-graduate journalism programs at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and speaks English, German, Italian and Spanish.
