Germany's famous Neuschwanstein Castle is being fully renovated for the first time. But it remains open to tourists. That poses a huge logistical challenge, as the castle welcomes several thousand visitors each day.
Neuschwanstein Castle, built by King Ludwig II, remains the biggest tourist magnet in Bavaria. Bayreuth and Munich are also popular with visitors.
Neuschwanstein is not only located in Bavaria; its brand now also belongs to the southern German state. The top EU court ruled that Bavaria can trademark the castle's name, much to the dismay of the souvenir industry.
Bavaria captivates tourists with its rustic traditions, royal palaces, and, of course, the Alps.
The King Ludwig II Museum in Herrenchiemsee, Bavaria, be open to the public again at the end of April after extensive construction work. A special exhibition will show never seen designs for Neuschwanstein Castle.
