Project goal: Preserving the Zambezian Miombo woodlands as a carbon sink

CO2 reduction: 13 million tonnes of CO2 can be stored in the forests per year

Western Zambia is home to the Miombo woodlands, a vast tract of forest that remains largely intact. Germany is supporting a project making the forests a conservation area, so that they continue to serve as a carbon sink and a habitat for many threatened species. The project foresees developing infrastructure to facilitate environmental protection and also involves local communities, in a bid to reduce poaching and deforestation.
