Worldwide about 60 percent of all tortoises and turtles are threatened. In some cultures they are even eaten and used in traditional medicine. Cambodia is one such country. Here conservationists are working to protect endangered tortoise species.
The pet trade, and hunger for meat are driving the elongated tortoise to extinction. Cambodian conservationists hope to revive the species in the wild by pairing them with a highly-guarded tree.
