Playboy Sachs' art collection fetches $56 million

Selections from an art collection that belonged to German playboy Gunter Sachs have drawn 36.6 million pounds ($56 million, 45 million euros) at a Sotheby's auction in London.

Among the items up for auction was the painting "Self Portrait (Fright Wig)," done by Sachs' friend Andy Warhol. It fetched the highest price of Tuesday's auction, brining in around 5.4 million pounds. Another Warhol painting of French singer and actress Brigitte Bardot, to whom Sachs was once married, went for 3 million pounds.

Sachs committed suicide at the age of 78 in May of last year at his home in Switzerland. He was an avid art collector, a hobby that began around 1960.

After his death, Sachs' family decided to option of part of the collection, which also features works from Yves Klein and Salvador Dali.
