Planet Berlin: Scandinavian design
Product designer Sten Rasmussen brings high design furniture and interior objects to Prenzlauer Berg.
Trendsetter
The furniture chain with the four large letters is omnipresent when it comes to furnishings from Scandinavia. Sten Rasmussen knows better: In his furniture store, he showcases exquisite design classics and traditional crafts from the far north. This is no random collection — he himself is a product designer who has a keen eye for beautiful and functional interior objects.
In the know
Scandinavian Objects sacrifices quantity for sheer quality within its relatively small confines. Nonetheless, it still packs in a diversity of Nordic objects from furniture to lamps, backpacks and toys. Customers can get intimate with every product via information sheets that provide a short product history and background insights.
Dishes good enough to eat
The Scandinavian Objects range includes the Kulinara porcelain series by Swedish designer Hanna Werning. Designed in 2009, the the bowls, cups and plates feature colorful herbs and vegetables, including chives, gooseberries and horseradish, and are reminiscent of classic 1950s crockery design.
By appointment
The store is too small for larger pieces of furniture such as sofas. Rasmussen therefore expanded his showroom by renting additional rooms in nearby Marienburger Strasse, also in Prenzlauer Berg. The furniture showroom can be visited by appointment.
