Paris Plays Dress Up

DW staff (sms)February 8, 2008

While there's a team of hair and makeup experts at hand to doll her up, millionaire celebrity Paris Hilton accessorizes toys herself. A German toymaker let her picks clothes and accessories for a new line of dolls.

The Hilton dolls, made by Germany's Simba Toys, will go on sale in Europe this year alongside Simba's existing doll character, Steffi Love, which competes in a fashion doll market dominated by a US rival, Barbie.

While the wide-eyed dolls do not resemble Hilton in the face, they do authentically represent her taste. The real-life Hilton chose three glitzy outfits -- including silver streaked hair, jewelry and MP3 player -- for the dolls: Party, Glam Summer and Shopping.

A Simba executive, Jürgen Deschner, said the products would have a starting pretax price of 8.40 euros ($12.40).

Simba, which has signed up for an initial two-year license from Hilton, has prepared a flesh-and-blood Hilton look-alike to smile at the visitors on its stand at the Nuremberg Toy Fair from Feb. 7 to Feb. 12.

Hilton said Simba wasn't the first company to approach her about a doll, but the 26-year-old snubbed her other suitor's less wholesome proposal.

"I turn down perverted things, some sex things," she said according to femalefirst.co.uk. "Like a Paris Hilton blow-up doll.

"This company was like, 'They'll sell for $50,000 each, it'll be the real-life you,'" she added. "And I'm like, 'I really don't want a real-life me with anyone, anywhere.'"
