Our beautiful planet

February 24, 2017

For anyone in northern Europe where months of white and gray skies have long since lost any appeal they may ever have had, a view like this one of Mount Egmont in New Zealand really is a sight for sore eyes.

The shades of blue and green scream warmth and summer, which of course it is at the other side of the world. Mount Egmont, or Mount Taranaki as it is also known, is an stratovolcano located on the western coast of the country's North Island. Scientists believe its last significant eruption was in the 1600s, but they do not rule out the possibility of another one this century.

For now, it simply looks like part of a relatively untouched paradise. Do you have a picture of a beautiful landscape that could chase away the European winter blues? If so, you can send it to us using the upload tool on our page, or by emailing us at ecoafrica@dw.com.
