Obsessed with Dancing - The Palucca Children

“Obsessed with Dancing“ tells stories from the everyday lives of Nina, David, Shirley and Pauline, four students at this renowned dance school. The cameras and microphones followed them for almost a year. They all dream of a career as a professional dancer.
The younger two of them, Nina and David, want to qualify for the school’s secondary school program, while Shirley and Pauline aim to enter the school’s B.A. program. To become a professional dancer requires not only talent but also a certain degree of ambition, self-discipline and passion.
The dancing school was founded in Dresden in 1925 by the legendary dancer Gret Palucca and since then has become one of Germany’s creative centers of classical dance. The institution offers a complete professional dancing program in combination with an formal academic education. The curriculum focuses on ballet, contemporary dance and improvisation, with a complete dance training including many diverse styles, techniques and complementary subjects.
The intense training - up to 17 hours per week in addition to the school’s integrated secondary school education - is reflected in long school days. Where do the four young students stand at the end of such a hard year? Nina, David, Shirley or Pauline. Who is allowed to stay? Who will have to go? Whose student’s lifelong dream could be shattered?
