New Year’s Day Dip

January 1, 2013

A dip in icy lake waters is a New Year’s day tradition in the region of Mecklenburg. In the town of Banzkow, the first day of the year sees a gathering of hardy souls who don unusual costumes and go for a swim whatever the weather. Afterwards they enjoy hot beverages, a hearty meal and brass band music.
