New DW radio service for Afghanistan via shortwave
Starting September 13, DW will broadcast daily radio programs in Dari and Pashto via shortwave to provide credible information to listeners in Afghanistan.
DW Director General Peter Limbourg: "In Afghanistan, media diversity and free access to independent information are under acute threat. DW has an experienced and skilled editorial team for the region, which will contribute to providing better information to the people of Afghanistan with a shortwave radio service in Dari and Pashto, in addition to our online and social media offerings."
DW will broadcast daily half-hour programs over the 15230 kHz and 15390 kHz frequencies, at 6:30 p.m. Afghan time in Dari (4 p.m. CEST) and at 7 p.m. Afghan time in Pashto (4:30 p.m. CEST).

Debarati Guha, DW Director Programs for Asia: "The focus of our program will be on the topics dialogue and peace, civil society and gender and human rights issues. With the new shortwave service, we are also prepared in case the Internet is shut down or restricted in Afghanistan. DW will not abandon the people there and will continue to provide them with balanced information."
