Kick Off! has been awarded the "INFRONT" Award and a "mention d’honneur" at the Federation Internationale Cinema Television Sportifs (FICTS) festival in Milan, Italy, the world’s largest sports film and television event.
Kick Off! was honored for our five-part documentary "50 Years of the Bundesliga." Festival President Franco Ascani presented the awards to Matthias Frickel and Henning Hesse, who produced the series as a whole.
"It’s great that we were honored for the most elaborate production we’ve ever undertaken," said Frickel. "Practically the entire Kick Off! team was involved, so everyone shares in the accolades."
The fiftieth anniversary of the Bundesliga was the sports topic of 2013 for the DW entire sports department, in the news, on our magazine programs and on our homepage. The five-part documentary was co-produced by the German Football League, the DFL.
The FICTS festival began in Milan in 1983. Fourteen such events are now held throughout the world in cities as diverse as Kampala, Hanoi, Samara, Los Angeles or Guayaquil, with the Milan event featureing the top films from all the other festivals. This year 972 entries were submitted from 113 participating countries.
