A referendum on independence has taken place in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region. More than three million people cast their ballots in the non-binding vote. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has said the map of Iraq is "endangered."
Curfews have been imposed, troops put on the streets and the internet reportedly shut down. Burgeoning protests in Iraq against corruption and poor services represent a major challenge and risk boiling over.
The vote recount comes following widespread allegations of fraud in the May parliamentary elections. The recount could further delay the formation of a new government for the country.
The youth vote is key in Zimbabwe's first election since its nonagenarian president, who sat tight for decades, was booted out. The poll on July 30 is expected to be a showdown with an entrenched old guard.
