'AKK' succeeds Merkel

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer has been elected the new leader of Germany's conservative Christian Democratic Union. She fended off a close challenge by lawyer Friedrich Merz for the spot. "AKK" is a close ally of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
