Head of the International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)

Astrid Kohl has been the head of the Berlin-based International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) since 2006. Before that, she worked as an international media adviser in Kiev, Ukraine, and reported as a permanent correspondent on Eastern European affairs for the Swiss daily Neue Zürcher Zeitung. She holds a master‘s degree in Slavic and English studies from Hamburg University and was trained as an editor at the German School of Journalism in Munich. The International Institute for Journalism offers training courses and dialogue programs that focus on topics like economics and business journalism and address media houses from sub-Sahara Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
