Executive Director and Director of Research of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies ( ECES), Cairo
Magda Kandil is the executive director and director of research for the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES). She is on leave from the IMF where she served as advisor to the executive director and senior economist. She was also a visiting scholar at the IMF Institute and research department. Kandil has undertaken many academic activities at various institutions, including the Universities of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Washington State, Southern Illinois and the Justus-Liebig Universitat in Giessen, Germany. Kandil has received many awards, including citations of excellence for the highest quality rating by ANBAR Electronic Intelligence. In 2000, she was ranked 344th among the top 500 economists in the world. She is a member of the American Economic Association, Canadian Economic Association, Arab Society for Economic Research, and the Economic Research Forum (ERF), where she was elected as the first woman chair of ERF research fellows. She has published extensively on various topics and holds a PhD in economics from Washington State University.
