Europe and Latin America: Old Friends and New Partners
The heads of Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and other Latin American states have created a new regional bloc, Prosur. It will replace Unasur, which was founded by late Hugo Chavez in a bid to limit US influence.
Cities such as Santiago de Chile and Cali in Colombia have started using electric buses. Others like San Jose, Costa Rica, and Panama City are in the middle of pilot projects to make transportation cleaner.
The defection comes as international and domestic pressure is mounting on Nicolas Maduro ahead of his second presidential term. The former top judge said a controversial May election was not free or fair.
