It’s time to ‘wake up Russia’

Zhanna Nemtsova - Where I come from

After studying economics at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), Zhanna Nemtsova pursued a career in journalism at the Russian business news channel RBC TV, where she worked as a host and interviewed political and business figures. Following the assassination of her father, political opposition leader and Putin-critic Boris Nemtsov in February 2015, she left the country after realizing her own safety was in danger. She ended up in Germany and ultimately at DW, where she now has the opportunity to put her journalistic experience to work “in a way that was no longer possible in Russia.” She hosts her own show Nemtsova.Interview and her book has its title from something her father once said when he was up in the bell tower of a church: He started to ring the big bell, and said, “I want to wake up Russia.”
