Elke Holst is a senior economist and research director for gender studies at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), one of the country's leading economic research institutions. She is also a member of the Socio-Economic Panel Study (SOEP) research infrastructure at DIW Berlin and a "Privatdozentin" (Associate Professor) at the University of Flensburg. Holst’s research topics are gender and labor economics. The current focus of her empirical work is on gender gaps in leadership positions (including executive and supervisory boards), wages, working time and remittances. She has published more than 100 scientific articles, policy papers and books on these issues over the last decade, given lectures and been a valued panel guest at many national and international scientific and public policy conferences.
