Heightened Fears: Geiger Counters Fly off the Shelves

The shock of the natural disaster in Japan and the nuclear crisis that followed has been felt around the world. In Germany, fear of nuclear fallout has prompted many to buy Geiger counters, devices that measure levels of nuclear radiation.

Now, they're sold out across the country. Companies that produce the particle detectors are working around the clock to keep up with sales. Gamma Scout is one of the world's biggest producers of Geiger counters, shipping to industry specialists and retail chains. Since the catastrophe in Japan began, demand for their devices has increased 20 fold.
