Moscow experienced its heaviest day of snowfall since records began, the city's mayor said. The snowfall downed power lines in the Moscow region, interrupting electricity for more than 5,000 people.
In the last two months, Afghanistan has received heavy snowfall, as it battles the impact of climate change. Several highways are currently closed over concerns that there might be more avalanches.
Thousands more people were stranded after snow blocked roads across the region. Some airports also cancelled all flights.
Snow, ice and heavy rain have caused power outages to tens of thousands of homes. Authorities urged people to stay off the roads after a motorist was killed by a falling tree.
An overnight avalanche has claimed dozens of lives in a village in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Severe rain and snow have hit the region since Sunday, leaving thousands stranded.
