#headabovewater - Germany: The young fisherman and the sea

Paul comes from a family of fishermen - but he’s one of the last young men wanting to do the job in Germany. Tough conditions, along with plummeting fish prices and maximum fish allowances have made the work less attractive. And although Paul loves what he does, he struggles to get by: he has to pay the mortgage on his boat and besides that, he faces the daily challenges of getting up in the middle of the night and working 13 hours straight; sometimes he doesn’t come back home for days or weeks at a time.
