According to new figures from the Federal Statistical Office, the number of overnight stays in Germany was three percent higher in 2016 than the year before, rising to a record 447.3 million.

The attacks in Würzburg and Ansbach last summer and the attack in Berlin in December that killed twelve people and injured many more had raised concerns that visitors might stay away.
Overnight stays by foreigners rose one percent to 80.8 million. Germans accounted for the other 366.5 million. That figure was up three percent.

The numbers refer to stays in hotels and other commercial establishments with 10 or more beds and in tourist campsites
