German consular staff met Tuesday with German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yucel in Istanbul for the first time since his incarceration. Officials had previously been denied a visit to Yucel who is accused of "espionage".
Seven months ago, Turkish-German citizen of Cologne Adil Demirci went on vacation to Turkey. Before he could return he was arrested on terror charges. His trial is set to start.
The European Court of Human Rights has received a statement from Ankara outlining why Yucel remains in detention. The reporter has taken his case to the ECHR after Turkish courts rejected several requests for release.
International artists have called for the release of the German-Turkish journalist and publisher who on Sunday will have been held for 300 days without charge. He was moved from solitary detention a few days ago.
Hundreds of supporters of detained German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yucel have held a concert in a packed Frankfurt theater to demand his release from prison. Yucel was arrested in Turkey three months ago.
