German industrial orders exceeded expectations in June mainly because of a jump in bookings for big-ticket items. Europe’s biggest economy is not out of the woods yet.
Both Labour and the Conservatives have been promising plenty ahead of the UK general election in December, with the big focus on a massive borrowing binge. German industry thinks the Conservatives are "the lesser evil."
The eastern German city of Weimar has ruled that doner kebabs made with additive-laced meat must now be described as Drehspiess (rotisserie). The guideline dates back more than three decades but most cities ignored it.
German businesses have already been suffering from the negative effects of Brexit, said Holger Bingmann, head of the foreign trade industry group BGA, pointing out losses to German exporters worth €3.5 billion this year.
German industry wants the government to invest more in space research and development. That includes building a domestic spaceport.
