One man was killed after further clashes between police and protesters erupted in Cairo on Friday night. The trouble is unlikely to end soon, after video footage emerged of a man being beaten by security forces.
A sealed tomb, believed to be some 4,400 years old, has been discovered at the ancient Egyptian necropolis of Saqqara. Archaeologists also unearthed mummies of cats and scarabs in other newly found tombs.
Egypt says police have killed 19 Islamist militants from a cell suspected of carrying out a deadly attack on Coptic Christians. Gunmen ambushed the pilgrims last week as they traveled home from a remote monastery.
The pilgrims were on their way to a remote desert monastery when their buses were fired upon by suspected Islamist gunmen. The attack is the second in the same place in as many years.
A Cairo court has sentenced 75 people to death over their involvement in a 2013 sit-in protest in support of the now-banned Muslim Brotherhood. At least 600 people were killed when security forces broke up the protest.
