France: Refuge for Syrian Dissidents

October 10, 2012

Paris is one of the safe havens in Europe for Syrian dissidents, among them amateur journalists who have risked their lives making mobile phone video recordings to report on atrocities in their country. Many of these "citizen journalists" have been given asylum in France. But even there, they fear the Assad regime's secret service might catch up with them. Despite that, two dissidents, a citizen journalist and a Syrian pacifist, have summoned up the courage to describe their situation. They differ on what the future should bring - a continuation of armed conflict or a search for a peaceful solution.
