Foursquare is all about telling your friends where you currently are, and providing tips on interesting local locations. The social networking site already has more than 30 million members worldwide.

Smartphone owners can use the app to reveal their current location to friends. It also wins them special offers and discounts at certain stores, restaurants and cafés. At the same time, that information is fed into a growing collection of movement profiles covering the planet. Foursquare claims check-in data is rendered anonymous when passed on to registered businesses for tracking individuals’ preferences.
