"In the 1990s, when human and social life in southeastern Europe was plagued by the spread of evil, Deutsche Welle, along with German political foundations, was a beacon of hope for us all. Back then I visited Deutsche Welle for the first time. For me it was a very important visit. At the time I was a member of the opposition in my country. To be given access, despite the difficult circumstances, to mass media from a country which rated highly in credibility and carried a lot of weight in international relations, to spread your message to the world - it meant that you gained the strength and motivation to change things in your own country."

Boris Tadić is the Honorary President of the Serbian Democratic Party who served as a President of Serbia from 2004 to 2012.
