Since the refugee crisis, border fences between Croatia and Slovenia have grown. Slovenia felt overwhelmed by the number of refugees that came in 2015. Even today the fence is being expanded, to the chagrin of border residents.
Croatian police have again been accused of systematically abusing the human rights of migrants at the border with Bosnia. A host of media reports have described brutal "pushbacks" and anti-migrant violence as routine.
Two suspected people smugglers were arrested in Serbia after authorities in Paraguay discovered the bodies of seven men in a shipping container. Serbian officials believe the suspects tried to get the men into the EU.
South Asian migrants stuck in Bosnian camps have accused Croatian police of badly beating people caught trying cross the border into the EU. Human rights groups are calling for an investigation of the abuse allegations.
It has become increasingly difficult for refugees to make their way from Greece to Central Europe. But in the face of police violence and the risk of arrest, thousands still embark on the dangerous journey.
