Social media networks like Facebook gather information about us - that is widely known. But the extent to which their algorithms can collect our data - and the extent to which our user behavior helps them do it - is astounding.
Tougher security settings on Facebook just won't cut it, says DW's Zulfikar Abbany. In his opinion, you shouldn't be using Facebook in the first place — and users have themselves to blame in part for data breaches.
"Promises aren't enough," said Minister Katarina Barley after meeting with Facebook's European management team. Barley said that users should expect more transparency and tighter controls in the future.
