Ines Pohl has taken on the role of editor-in-chief at Deutsche Welle as of March 2017. She is responsible for the journalism offerings available from Germany’s international broadcaster in television, radio and online.

Ines Pohl, born in 1967, came to Deutsche Welle from the daily newspaper “taz” in 2015 and was the US correspondent in DW’s Washington studios up until the inauguration of US President Donald Trump in January 2017.

Pohl was the editor-in-chief at the “taz” for six years. Before she worked as the political correspondent for the media conglomerate Ippen in Berlin, she headed the political desk at the German daily newspaper “Hessischen Niedersächsischen Allgemeinen.” Pohl got her start in journalism after working as a freelancer at diverse local newspapers and Radio ffn, which she began after completing her studies in Scandinavian languages and culture alongside German literature and culture at the University of Göttingen. She is a former Nieman Foundation for Journalism grant recipient and has followed the political developments in the US with a critical eye. Since 2010, Ines Pohl has been a member of the board of trustees of “Reporter ohne Grenzen,” the German branch of the NGO “Reporters without Borders” and since 2013, a member of the board of trustees of the International Journalists’ Programmes (IJP).
