Turkish-language program +90 launches on Instagram
September 28, 2020In addition to YouTube and Twitter, the Turkish-language program +90 is now available on Instagram. Named after Turkey's international country code, +90 gives a voice to groups that are underrepresented in the media. In addition to personal stories about single mothers, migration from the big cities, problems faced when searching for a job, human rights and climate change, the Instagram account also shares facts about each topic in photo and video formats.
"Turkey is among the top 10 countries in the world with the highest Instagram usage. On Instagram, we want to build on our success with YouTube and reach even more people, especially those in our young, cosmopolitan target group, and contribute to the free formation of opinion," says Project Manager Isil Nergiz. In the first few weeks, the new account will cover topics such as nutrition, animal welfare, the International Girls' Day and LGBTI rights.
"We were able to close a gap with our YouTube content and serve the desire for independent reporting in Turkey. I am pleased that we can now extend this success to an exciting, interactive platform like Instagram," says Erkan Arikan, head of DW's Turkish Service.
"+90 is about the life stories of people who don't make it into the Turkish mainstream media.By expanding to Instagram, we want to bring these stories to a younger audience and contribute to more diversity," says DW Editor-in-Chief Manuela Kasper-Claridge.
