An Israeli soldier who shot dead a wounded Palestinian attacker has been freed from jail after serving nine months of a 14-month manslaughter sentence. Palestinian groups say Elor Azaria’s early release promotes a culture of killing and bloodshed.
The bill is a response to a video showing a detained Palestinian man being shot by an Israeli soldier. Critics says the aim is to curb army accountability, and vow to continue monitoring in the occupied territories.
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin has denied a request to pardon Elor Azaria, who is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence. Azaria was convicted of manslaughter after killing a wounded Palestinian attacker.
