South Korean police have searched German carmaker BMW's Seoul headquarters in connection with dozens of engine fires earlier this year. Officers are investigating whether the company covered up vehicle defects.
South Korea is banning all recalled BMW cars that have not passed new safety checks after the German cars suffered a series of engine fires. Anyone found violating the ban could face up to a year in prison.
South Korea is launching a probe into BMW over an alleged delay in recalling 103,000 cars following a spate of engine fires. If found negligent, the German automaker could face a multi-million euro payout.
