Court Rules Home Schooling Unacceptable

Parents may not keep their children from attending school even if they give them lessons at home, a district court in Giessen ruled Wednesday. A couple had appealed to the court to overturn an earlier ruling that required them to pay a fine of €800 (around $920) because they refused to send their five school-age children to school. The parents argued that state-run schools countered their religious beliefs by allegedly teaching sexual promiscuity, magic and the theory of evolution. The children's mother had been teaching them from home.
