After lashing the Caribbean, tropical storm Isaias is bearing down on Florida. Forecasters warn it could regain hurricane strength by the time it hits the US state, which is already reeling from a Covid-19 surge.
The measure has been taken in coastal areas as the state prepares itself for maximum sustained winds of 75 miles (120.7 km) per hour. Recently upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane, it might make landfall late on Friday.
Six people were killed as Isaias toggled between hurricane and tropical storm strength, moving north up the East Coast. Isaias also caused floods and fires that displaced and injured dozens of people.
US forecasters have upgraded tropical storm Isaias to a Category 1 hurricane. The weather system is headed for the Bahamas and the US after unleashing floods and landslides in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
