I am an Englishman, 75 years old and a pensioner. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa.
When I was a boy during1946 to1948 my father was a British soldier and I attended the British School in Altoona, Hamburg. I have always had very fond memories of Germany.
Over the years I have enjoyed listening to DW on a shortwave radio, as I couldn’t afford to watch your programs on our main pay TV satellite provider (Multi Choice).
However since the advent of Astra 5 satellite transmitting mostly to French speaking Africa, I have invested in a free-to-air satellite receiver and was delighted to find that I could not only watch DW but also listen DW’s radio programming as well.
Thank you for the many pleasant hours of watching and listening to your very interesting programs.

I'm grateful for my father- he was the first to introduce me to DW and help me discover its wide variety of programming. Since then I have learned a lot about Germany and even improved my English a little bit: Some of my friends at high school are also learning about DW. DW’s multicultural orientation shows that together we can build a better world by sharing empathy and solidarity, which are ingredients of happiness. Congratulations on your 60th anniversary. 60 years have passed but there are 60 more to look forward to, cheers!
