Macedonian police fired tear gas at refugees demonstrating against the closing of the border. Dozens of migrants stranded at the refugee camp in the Greek town of Idomeni attempted to break through a border fence.
Two migrants have been found dead in a Croatian forest, apparent victims of a landslide. The men are thought to have been traveling through Bosnia, where authorities say 4,000 migrants are waiting to enter the EU.
With the former "Balkan route" closed, more and more refugees are trying to make their way into the EU via Bosnia, where many end up stuck in a muddy tent city. Amir Puric reports from Velika Kladusa.
Albania and Macedonia have been given the go-ahead to prepare for EU accession talks – though not until June 2019. In an interview with DW, German Deputy Minister Michael Roth says it’s the right decision.
Frontex chief Fabrice Leggeri has warned that Spain could see a significant increase in migrant arrivals. The news comes ahead of the European Commission's new proposal to strengthen EU external borders with more guards.
