The number of infections worldwide shot up to 60,000 after 15,000 new cases were reported in just one day, using a new diagnostic model. Over 250 deaths were recorded on Wednesday alone – in the Chinese province of Hubay, where the outbreak began.
China's Hubei province has decided to change the diagnosis criteria for coronavirus, bringing relief to infected residents. One woman felt the effects of the authorities' penchant to keep the number of infected down.
The French health minister has reported the first death from COVID-19 in Europe. It is thought to be the first death from the virus outside of Asia.
The number of deaths caused by the coronavirus in China rose by 89, to 811, on Saturday. The count now exceeds the number of people who died in the SARS epidemic in 2002-2003 in China.
Despite numbers dropping, the WHO has cautioned that the outbreak still "has the potential to grow." The UN agency has called for millions of dollars in funding to assist countries in preparing for more outbreaks.
