Fishing boats have massed in front of a port off the island in the English Channel for a "peaceful protest" against the "restrictive measures" imposed since Brexit.
The EU has ratified the bitterly debated trade deal between the bloc and its former member, Britain. The bare bones deal was agreed last-minute in December last year.
The vote is the final step toward ratifying the EU-UK agreement and marks the last chapter of the Brexit saga that began almost five years ago. Relations between Brussels and London have already begun to sour.
Crowds in Belfast set a hijacked bus on fire with petrol bombs and hurled stones at police as unrest continued in the region. The British prime minister expressed his deep concern over the violence.
