Today is Brexit Day and the EU capital Brussels is preparing to bid farewell to Britain. At midnight Brussels time, the UK will formally leave the European Union. The path to Brexit has been a rocky one.
The unity of EU members faces a new, painful test with the coronavirus crisis. If the bloc fails to stand up to it, the entire project might "lose its foundations," warned Italy's Prime Minister Guiseppe Conte.
The British government has spent about 70% of the funds allocated to cover the cost of Brexit preparations. The money mostly went to cover staff costs, new infrastructure and gathering external expertise.
